Sugo or The Chosen One (International title) is a fantasy Philippine drama produced by GMA Network. Directed by Dominic Zapata and Lore Reyes, the series premiered on July 4, 2005 and ended on February 10, 2006.
Plot[]
Sugo dwells on the topic of good versus evil. The good side is represented by the Karag-ayan tribe and the darker side is the Binhi-lan tribe. The battle between these forces starts during the Spanish era when Apo Abukay (Gardo Versoza), a chieftain who wants to gain powers and use it dominate the world, exchanges his soul with the anito (spirit god) but is killed by Conde Vergonze. After his death, his cursed soul remains. Many years later, during the 1980s, Karag-ayan Amelia (Lorna Tolentino) and the Binhi-lan Rodolfo (Jestoni Alarcon) fall in love with each other. Amelia gives birth to twin boys. The two are raised separately, not knowing that the other exists. Miguel (the son of light) is kind, good-hearted and lives a modest life; the other, Amante (the seed of darkness) is raised with hate and rage, but with riches and power.
Miguel and Amante (both played by Richard Gutierrez), belong to opposing tribes, and have opposing tasks to fulfill. It is Amante's task to protect the alay, a female offering whose blood will be used to reincarnate Apo Abukay's body, now a mummy hidden in the depths of a mountain, to reign darkness on earth. Miguel must slay the alay in order to stop Apo Abukay's possible return.
The twins' paths cross when they both fall in love with the same girl, Isabel (Isabel Oli). Neither knows that she is the girl whose blood will be the cause of Apo Abukay's return. This begins the conflict between the twins.
