News that matters, we get it covered only here on News on Q.
―Closing spiel in 2007 to 2008 following it's English switch

News on Q was a primetime newscast aired on Q. Airing from November 11, 2005 to February 18, 2011, it was originally a Filipino-language newscast anchored by Ivan Mayrina and Rhea Santos.

In 2007, the newscast changed to English language, before reverting back to Filipino in 2010 with Connie Sison joining the newscast, with Santos leaving the newscast a few weeks after.

Overview[]

The hour-long newscast, which aired every Monday to Fridays from 9:00 to 10:00 PM, focuses on the most significant news stories of the day from the Philippines and around the world, as well as segments which also feature the lighter side of the news. Mayrina and Sison earlier said that the show's formula gives "overall view of what’s happening in the Philippines, around the world, and at the end, give them a sense of hope, inspire them that there is still a light at the end of the tunnel."

On March 5, 2007, in line with the network's re-branding, News on Q's language shifted from the usual Filipino/Tagalog to English prior to the election coverage special (Eleksyon 2007) between May 14 and 15, pitting up against the now-defunct Studio 23's News Central. This was GMA's first English newscast after GMA Headline News and GMA Network News in the mid-80s and early 90s.

In 2009, from the usual 30 minutes, the run time was extended to 45 minutes. On April 5, 2010, the language was reverted to Filipino after 3 years answering to TV5's Aksyon (which premiered on the same night), Connie Sison joined the newscast and the run time was changed to 1 hour. On April 21, 2010, Santos left the newscast, leaving Mayrina and Sison as the anchors. prior to the election coverage special (Eleksyon 2010) between May 10 and 11.

Following the announcement of GMA News TV on February 7, 2011, the newscast aired its final episode on February 18, as Q ended its programming on February 20 then it would go for its final sign-off on February 27. It was replaced by State of the Nation with Jessica Soho on February 28 as part of the same network's first day on the air.

Both Mayrina and Sison would later become anchors of the news-public service show On Call: Balita. Serbisyo. Ngayon.
