Balitanghali is the noontime newscast of Q, GMA News TV, and GTV. It premiered on November 11, 2005, and ended on September 1, 2023, without formal announcement. It was replaced by Balita Ko. The newscast later returned on November 13, 2023. A weekend edition aired from 2010 until 2020.
The title is a portmanteau of the words "balita" (news) and "tanghali" (noontime); the title of the newscast roughly translates to "Noontime News" or "Noon News".
Balitanghali is dubbed by GMA Network as the longest-running noontime newscast on Philippine free TV.
Overview[]
2005-2014: Pia Arcangel and Raffy Tima[]
The newscast was first aired on GMA's sister network, Q, on November 11, 2005 during the network's initial broadcast, which airs on a Monday-Saturday basis. Balitanghali was also simulcasted on radio through GMA Network's flagship station DZBB. In May 2008, the simulcast was only limited to weekends to give way for the launch of the radio station's noontime newscast, Super Balita sa Tanghali Nationwide.
After Q ceased airing on February 20, 2011, the newscast was carried over on its replacement network, GMA News TV on February 28, 2011. The newscast had moved out of Studio 3 at GMA Network Center (which was also used by Unang Balita and had introduced a new studio set at Studio 2 along with its title card, graphics, and OBB. On April 25, 2011, Grace Lee was named as the new host for the Star Bites segment for weekdays.
On May 23, 2011, the weekday edition of Balitanghali was expanded to 90 minutes, starting at 11:30am–1:00pm.
On 2012, Luane Dy replaced Grace Lee when Lee moved to TV5.
2014-present: Connie Sison and Raffy Tima[]
On November 10, 2014, as part of GMA News shakeup, Connie Sison replaced Pia Arcangel who in turn, replaced Vicky Morales on Saksi. Along with 24 Oras and Saksi, the graphics was updated in flat, also their title cards, and the OBB. Luane Dy left Balitanghali in 2017 to become part of Eat Bulaga! as one of its co-hosts.
As the Dobol B sa News TV block expansion and transfer of GMA News TV from Channel 11 to Channel 27 on June 3, 2019, Balitanghali reduced back to 60 minutes at 12:00nn–1:00pm.
In March 2020, the production was temporarily halted due to the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The show resumed its programming on September 21, 2020. In February 2021, GMA News TV was rebranded as GTV, with the show being carried over to the said network.
On November 29, 2021, Balitanghali reverted to the new logo, opening billboard, and enhanced studio setup that will accommodate augmented reality technology. Balitanghali also introduced their first main website, and also launched its Facebook and Twitter pagers.
On September 1, 2023, the newscast ended its first run, without any formal announcement. It was replaced by Balita Ko that carries the same main anchors, on September 4. On November 10, 2023, the profile and cover photo of social media accounts of Balita Ko was reverted back to Balitanghali, and returned on-air on November 13, 2023. While it reverted back to its original name, it retained some of the new segments introduced and shares the graphics by Balita Ko.
On December 18, 2023, Balitanghali, alongside 24 Oras, Saksi, the Unang Balita segment of Unang Hirit, State of the Nation and GMA Integrated News Bulletin, revamped their graphics, logo, and music, as well as the OBB, which features rotating letters/logos akin to the 2013 and 2016 Marvel Studios logos. The change is part of GMA Integrated News's unified corporate identity.
On April 8, 2024, the newscast has cut short to 30 minutes, to give way for the GTV simulcast of TiktoClock, which would air at 11am.
On June 3, 2024, Regional TV News, the newscast produced by GMA Regional TV merged with Balitanghali. Regional TV News became the news segment on the program, anchored with Cris Zuñiga from GMA Dagupan, Cecille Quibod-Castro from GMA Cebu, and Sarah Hilomen-Velasco from GMA Davao (with Zuñiga reporting the news from Luzon, while both Quibod-Castro and Hilomen-Velasco rotatingly reporting the news from Visayas and Mindanao).
On September 16, 2024, Balitanghali reverted to its 11am-12nn timeslot, replacing the simulcast of TiktoClock.

Trivia[]
- Ironically in 2023 to 2024, despite the name of the program that aired on a noontime slot, the newscast would eventually move the timeslot between 10:00am and/or 10:30am or earlier before or ended at between 11:00am due to a number of reasons of programming changes such as GTV's simulcast of TiktoClock.
- This (as well as GTV's morning programming block) have caused criticism by several viewers online.
- However, the anchors still say "Magandang tanghali po. Oras na para sa maiinit na balita." in the intro.
- Balitanghali is the only newscast to not use the word "LIVE" during live reports. Instead, it has an intro saying "Ulat on the Spot".
